Locking pins, placed above the bar, were used to secure a door. A small hole was drilled part way through the wood over the bar. This received the pin, preventing the bar from being raised. When not in use, the pin hung by a piece of leather which was nailed to the doorway. This same locking device was used to secure double hung windows.
